Cheptegei finished the race in 27:27.43 minutes. “I knew that if I could get into the last fight, I could control it and I could speed it up. It was very emotional for me to come back to the USA where I started my international career in 2014. Now I want to continue my dominance in long distance running and I hope I will manage it.” said the gold medal winner Cheptegei.

Kenya’s Stanley Mburu came in second winning the silver, the 22-year old ,regardless of the fall he took in the first lap, finished in 27:27.90 minutes.

Jacob Kiplimo won the bronze for Uganda finishing in 27:27.97.

“I did not aim to run really fast because of the heat, the sun was very strong but I was able to get stronger and keep it faster and faster.”

USA’s Grant Fisher came in fourth in 27:28.14 minutes while Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega was unable to get the results he got in Tokyo and came in fifth.
