Normal operations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were on Monday morning interrupted after the airport suspended all incoming and outgoing flights after a cargo plane experienced technical issues during an attempted takeoff.
According to a statement by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the incident prompted the closure of the runway while they work to resolve the situation.
According to preliminary information, Singapore Airlines flight SQ7343 from Nairobi to Amsterdam experienced severe engine damage caused by a bird strike, leading to the aborted takeoff.
The airport management has however expressed its concerns about ensuring the safety of all passengers stating that it is fully committed to the safety of all travellers and is collaborating closely with the appropriate authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible.
The KAA has also expressed its regrets for the inconvenience caused appreciating the customers for their patience and understanding.
