Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Wednesday 26th April seen in the premises of Jubilee Party Headquarters as tension ensued due to wrangles between two rival factions, one supporting Jeremiah Kioni and the other one drumming up for Kanini Kega who are fighting over the party leadership.
Police were forced to lob teargas outside the headquarters after the supporters became unruly clashing over who is the bonafide Secretary-General of the former ruling party.
According to Jubilee Party Vice-Chairman, Adan Keynan Kioni’s position in the party’s administration lies with the party’s internal dispute resolution committee.
EALA MP Kanini Kega who has been claiming the position of the party’s Secretary-General suffered a blow after the Political Parties Tribunal declined to quash the National Executive Committee’s resolution that installed the EALA MP in the position.
In its judgment delivered on April 16, the tribunal said that the notice for the National Executive Committee meeting issued on February 2 and the subsequent NEC meeting on February 10 which imposed Kega was done as per the party Constitution.
