Gen Francis Omondi Ogolla is the new Chief of Defence Forces. This is after President William Ruto appointed him to the position. Omondi’s appointment will now see General Robert Kariuki Kibochi’s tenure come to an end.
Until his appointment on Friday 28th April 2023, Ogolla was serving as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces, holding the rank of Lt General and was promoted to a full General and named to head the military.
General Ogolla is replacing Kibochi who according to a circular from the Ministry of Defence, exits the service after 44 years of service.
In his announcements on Friday, President Ruto also appointed Lt Jonah Mwangi as Vice Chief of Defence Forces. Before his appointment, Mwangi served as the Vice Chancellor of the National Defence College.
The head of State also promoted Major General Said Farah to Vice Chancellor of the National Defence University.
In other appointments made, Brigadier David Kipkemboi Keter has been promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics.
The Head of State promoted Brigadier Stephen James Mutuku to Major General and appointed him as Senior Directing Staff (Army) at the National Defence College.
Brigadier John Maison Nkoimo rises to Major General rank and has been appointed Commandant Joint Command Staff College (JCSC).
Other key changes announced Friday include the appointment of Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus as Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army.
Major Gen William Karisa Shume was appointed General Officer of Border Security Command.
