With the on going heavy rains witnessed across the country, 7 people have lost their lives and several confirmed missing in Gilgil Nakuru county.
Monday night heavy rains at Oljorai area in Gilgil has left more than 40 families displaced.
Among them were three children and four women with one family losing four of its members in the heavy pour.
At around 8pm was when the incident occurred with flashing floods from the Eburru Hills where the waters swept away homes and buried others in the mud.
The Gilgil OCPD Mr. Francis Tumbo said that the rescue operation’s had to wait until the morning hours due to the heavy rains, he also added that some areas were inaccessible because roads were cut off by the rains.
He also added that the bodies of the deceased had been taken to the Gilgil mortuary.
Gilgil MP Martha Wangari guaranteed the affected persons that the Government and Her office would provide the necessary aid to the affected families.
