Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga has revealed about her relationship with Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachael Ruto.
Speaking to Nation, Ida Odinga opened up on how she is distant to Rachael Ruto because of the position of their husbands.
Ida said that she does not meet more often with Rachael Ruto and their relationship has deteriorated.
She also added that unlike Rachael, she is easy with the First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, thanks to the political alignment.
However, she disputed that they are not enemies with Rachael but they just do not meet more often.
“In fact, we are friends although we don’t meet often. But I need not ask for permission from anyone to meet anybody,”she told Nation.
Dragging DP Ruto to the conversation, she said that he might not allow Rachael to be meeting with her because of being on different political divides.
“Even with Rachel we would be easy, but I know it won’t be easy for her. The spouse may not allow her to engage me for obvious political reasons. He may not like it,” she added.
For Raila Odinga, she said Baba does not influence or monitor what she does or who she meets as she is a senior citizen.
“I don’t ask for permission to meet anybody. I’m a senior citizen. I’m not mzee’s little child (smiles). There are certain decisions that I can also make. If I need consultation, I’ll consult, but there are certain decisions I can make as a human being,” she added.
Ida and Rachael were once close friends when DP Ruto and Raila were working together in ODM in the hotly contested 2007 elections.
