A devastated family from Kisii is demanding justice for their son who was shot dead on Monday during Azimio protests.
William Mayenga, the third-year Literature student at Maseno University, was among students who invaded the Maseno police line and vandalised at least 10 houses, prompting officers to use live bullets to disperse the rowdy youths.
The parents,Joash Mayenga and mother Evelyn Miruka, are now demanding for justice and still tyring to comprehend how their said their son was killed “in cold blood”.
“I was shocked by the news. At first, they lied to me that my son was still alive, only to reach the hospital and find him lying dead,” Ms Miruka said.
The students on the other side have a different story to tell as they claim they staged a peaceful protest and they were not violent.
“The police want to create a narrative that we were violent and injured them. We demand that they produce the officers who they claim we beat up and show the extent of their injuries,” said Mr Fredrick Were, a student leader.
UDA camp has come out to blame Azimio leader Raila Odinga for leading the protests that they say were not peaceful and calls for his arrest.
