A section of leaders across the political divide has come out to express their contentment after the Azilimo La Umoja- One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga on Sunday 2nd April 3, 2023, announced that their demonstrations have come to a halt and they are ready to engage the government on their demands.

The move followed President William Ruto’s proposal for consideration of a bi-partisan parliamentary engagement to address Raila’s concerns regarding the recruitment of new IEBC commissioners.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, April 2, lauded Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga for calling off the mass demonstrations terming the move as ‘statesmanship’.

Rigathi’s sentiments are however a change of tact from his earlier stance where he made it clear that the government would not work with the opposition.

The country’s second in command heaped praises on his boss President William Ruto for resorting to safeguard Kenyans’ lives and properties.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who adds up as the chairperson council of Governors through her Twitter account congratulated the opposition Chief Raila Odinga for halting demos.

Waiguru thanked Raila for agreeing to rely on available, legal and harmonious means to resolve issues.

Flamboyant City lawyer and Raila’s point man Donald Kipkorir through an open letter to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga said that Raila has squandered many given chances to take the leadership of the country to another level.

He went on to say that Raila misused all his chances by working with the same people and using the same tactics and strategies, but he now has another chance to change the course of history.

Kipkorir, however, noted that as they engage, it should strictly be about Kenya and the people.
Kipkorir who backed Raila’s bid for presidency advised that it is time he changes the people around him when negotiating with Ruto.

Azimio had in the past weeks staged protests in the city stalling normalcy calling on the government to bring down the cost of living among other demands.
