XRAI, a software company, developed software that turns speech into subtitles in real-time. The software works with augmented reality glasses called NREAL Air.
The software converts audio into text which is displayed on the screen of the glasses.
The app is currently only available on android smartphones.
The app works on a smartphone into which the glasses are plugged.
‘”When I tried on the glasses, I was astonished – This is a product that enables engagement and participation like never before. I see XRAI Glass as a hugely positive force.” Steve Crump – Founder and Chair of DeafKidz International.
The NREAL Air glasses cost $379.
“We continually look for innovative services that positively impact our customers’ lives. When we found something truly pioneering.” Michael Buckfield – Assistive Technology Consultant.
The glasses are able to identify who is speaking due to voice recognition. It can also translate several different languages.
Dan Scarfe (XRAI CEO). ” Deaf people have told us that it can be incredibly isolating being around family or friends or in a work environment ad not be able to fully engage in the conversation because you can’t keep a track of everything that’s going on. With technology like this we can provide contextual information and actually be able to allow them to see what people are saying for the first time, And some of the reactions that we’ve had as users tried this on is. you know, truly life-changing technology.”
