Kibra residents are now counting losses as youth  raided and set the PCEA church on fire on 27th, March, 2023. According to witnesses, a group  stormed into a kiosk which was allegedly hosting a group that was attacking them.

During the confrontation, the youth set the kiosk on fire which spread to the nearby mosque in Makina area, destroying a part of it before the situation could be contained.

Protesters had been fighting the police in claims that the police had banned anyone from the slum to leave.

In retaliation, the youth set the PCEA church on fire later that evening. This left a trail of destruction behind as property of unknown worth was destroyed.

However, locals claim that the attackers may have planned the arson in advance as they went armed with fuel and machetes.

According to a witness, the police did nothing to stop them and some went as far as to speculate that the attackers may have had protection from the police.

Apart from property destruction, Kilimani police boss, Muturi Mbogo, confirmed that there were no fatalities in the chaos.
