On Saturday, President William Ruto presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the new leadership team of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at State House, Nairobi. During the ceremony, he urged the military leadership to uphold the integrity of the military and serve Kenyans without bias.
President Ruto commended Kenya for having a diligent, professional, and outstanding military tradition. He further expressed confidence in General Francis Ogolla, who was sworn in as the Chief of the Defence Forces, saying that he merits the Office. General Ogolla took over from General Robert Kibochi, who retired.
The President also appointed Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces. Prior to his appointment, Lieutenant General Mwangi served as the Vice Chancellor of the National Defence University – Kenya.
In addition to these appointments, the President also appointed several Major Generals and Brigadiers to various positions within the KDF. These appointments include Major General Abdulkadir Mohammed Burje as the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), Major General David Kipkemboi Keter as the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L), Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus as the Deputy Commander Kenya Army, Major General Jeff Mungai Nyagah as the General Officer Western Command (GOC WESTCOM), and Major General William Karisa Shume as the General Officer Border Security Command (GOC BSC).
The President called upon the armed forces to support other agencies in advancing the country’s transformation agenda. He emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution and serving Kenyans without bias.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale (Defence) and Kindiki Kithure (Interior), and other dignitaries.
