Celebrated Kenyan Rally driver Maxine Wahome who was charged with murdering her boyfriend Asad Khan, has been released on a Ksh2 million bond.
High Court Judge Lilian Mutende on Thursday, March 30 ruled that there were no compelling reasons to continue detaining her pending the hearing and determination of her murder case.
However, Justice Mutende issued intructions to Maxine to restrain herself from contacting witnesses who have recorded statements in the case including the deceased’s family, neighbours and security guards at the scene of the crime.
The court also ordered Maxine to deposit her passport with the High Court Deputy Registrar Criminal Division and not to leave the country without the court’s permission.
While making her determination, the judge also noted that the strength of the prosecution case as argued by the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), is not a ground alone to deny her bail.
The rally driver was on March 15th charged with the murder of her 50 year old boyfriend and renowned rally driver Asad Khan who died on December 18, 2022, at Avenue Hospital Nairobi following fatal injuries inflicted on him on December 11 and 12, 2022 at his apartment at Preston Court in Kileleshwa.
Maxine Wahome, is currently being held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison. Her release came a day after a probation officer recommended her release owing to her character and history.
The matter will be mentioned on April 19 of this year.
