Deputy President and UDA presidential candidate William Ruto has explained his viral audio threatening to slap President Uhuru Kenyatta after 2017 polls.

In the undated audio, DP Ruto was heard speaking to a small audience where he explained how Uhuru wanted to give up after elections were nullified by the Supreme Court.
“There he was, saying that he is not keen on taking part in the repeat elections and that he wants to go to Ichaweri, that we should abandon this thing,” Ruto was heard in the audio.
He added, “I just looked at him and only said ‘you!’ It is only that I respected him, otherwise I would have slapped him. How could we just quit?”
Explaining the viral video Thursday night on KTN, he said that his sentiments were figure of speech and was taken out of the proportion.
“That’s what a genuine friend do, when a friend is about to make a mistake, you should be there to support them not to make the wrong decisions,” he explained.
He went further explaining how Kenyans relate his circumstance with a Bible verse, “A slap from a friend is better than a kiss from an enemy.”
