Residents of the Ng’ainet area in Bomet County were on Thursday evening left in shock after a 28-year-old father of two confessed to killing his two children before attempting suicide by consuming poison.
Confirming the incident Bomet Central Sub-County police boss Musa Omar said that the suspect, one Hillary Kibet Rono, reportedly hacked to death his sons, aged 2 and 3, using a tea-pruning knife in what is suspected to be a family feud gone sour after his wife left the homestead last Sunday following a bitter quarrel.
The suspect, in an attempted suicide, reportedly consumed an Acaricide dose of poison before reporting the heinous act he had committed to his parents in the neighbourhood telling them that he was going to die soon.

In the police statement, Omar explained that the incident is a murder case where a father took the life out of two children using a panga and thereafter, confessed to his father what he had done. This prompted the father to seek the assistance of the neighbours who arrested him.
Police who visited the scene removed the two bodies and also recovered an empty poison container allegedly used by the suspect.
The suspect was however rushed to the nearby local health Centre for first aid and later referred to the Longisa County Referral Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
According to a report from the neighbours, the suspect’s wife left the homestead two weeks ago fearing that her husband was planning to kill her over unending marital disputes leaving behind the two children under their father’s care.
